AROUND THE HOMESTEAD

The Kennecott mill town and mines are an extraordinary relic from America's past. The impressive structures and artifacts that remain represent an ambitious time of exploration, discovery, and technological innovation. They tell stories of westward expansion, World War I politics and economy, the lives of men, women, and children who lived there, and the rise of a multinational corporation. Each link in the historical chain connects to another until we realize that this remote Alaska mining venture was intricately connected to the world around it.

Wrangell-St. Elias is a vast national park that rises from the ocean all the way up to 18,008 ft. At 13.2 million acres, the park is the same size as Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, and Switzerland combined! Within this wild landscape, people continue to live off the land as they have done for centuries. This rugged, beautiful land is filled with opportunities for adventure.

Today, it is the prime jumping-off point to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the largest national park in the country, and hub for salmon fishing on the Copper River. From a mining boomtown, to ghost town it's once again come alive with the many residents who live there year-round, and tourists who come for adventure!

Avoid costly auto repairs and towing bills – use Kennicott Shuttle to travel remote roads prohibited by most RV and car rental contracts. Kennicott Shuttle offers pick-up service from area lodges, B&Bs, campgrounds and RV parks. Stay for a day or stay for a week. Whatever your travel plans… relax and leave the driving to Kennicott Shuttle.

From Glennallen to Chitina, Kennicott Shuttle will take you on the memorable 125 mile drive to the ghost town of Kennicott, Alaska!

When driving into Valdez, you will pass through Keystone Canyon, a place of spectacular waterfalls, magnificent geology and fascinating history. Horsetail Falls and Bridal Veil Falls cascade over towering canyon walls, greeting travelers from above. Keystone Canyon is located at miles 14 through 17 on the Richardson Highway, and also includes the scenic Rudleston Falls.

Sunny or overcast, summer or fall, morning or evening, the majesty of the Wrangells, Chugach, University, and St. Elias mountain ranges will overtake the imagination. We offer three flights, daily, from Chitina to McCarthy. Park your rental car and let us show you the wonder of Wrangell - St. Elias National Park from the skies.

There is nothing like the Alaskan outdoors and getting to the sweet-spots is a rich part of the adventure. In sum, I combined my love for the great outdoors and family fun activities to create Rock Skip Adventures. Rock Skip Adventures offers access to the Copper River for full-day and multi-day dip netting and sightseeing charters.
